The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has amended guidelines for central financial assistance (CFA) under the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The changes apply to residential rooftop solar installations.
State and union territory governments can now provide an additional subsidy over the CFA given by the central government.
Under the revised structure:
Residential consumers will receive Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and Rs 18,000 per kW for the next 1 kW.
No CFA is provided for capacities above 3 kW.
Special category states and union territories are eligible for Rs 33,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and Rs 19,800 per kW for the next 1 kW.
Group housing societies (GHS) and residential welfare associations (RWA) can avail CFA for solar systems installed for common facilities such as lighting and EV charging. The CFA is capped at 3 kW per house and 500 kW per project.
Only systems using domestically manufactured solar modules and cells are eligible for CFA.
The guidelines mandate a five-year maintenance period by vendors. Poor service can result in penalties or de-registration.
