AERB clears site for Mahi Banswara nuclear project in Rajasthan

The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has approved the site for the proposed 2,800 MW Mahi Banswara Nuclear Power Project in Rajasthan.

The project will be developed by a joint venture between NTPC Limited and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), with NTPC holding a 49% stake and NPCIL 51%. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 504 billion.

The project involves the construction of four units of Pressurized Heavy-Water Reactors (PHWRs) in a fleet mode, aimed at scaling up domestic nuclear power capacity. It is part of India’s strategy to diversify its energy mix and enhance baseload clean power supply.
