The Prime Minister has laid the foundation stone for Stage-II of the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Aurangabad, Bihar. The expansion involves setting up 3×800 MW ultra-supercritical units, adding 2,400 MW to the existing capacity.
The project is being developed by NTPC Limited at an estimated cost of Rs 299.48 billion. It will use ultra-supercritical technology and include a dry bottom ash handling system and air-cooled condenser to reduce freshwater consumption.
Electricity from the plant will support not only Bihar but also Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Punjab.
The project expands the existing 1,980 MW (3×660 MW) Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Plant. It is being implemented by Nabinagar Power Generating Company Limited. An amendment to the environmental clearance has also been sought to include 18.25 acres (7.39 hectares) of forestland within the already acquired 1,500 acres (607.03 hectares).
Separately, under the PM-KUSUM scheme, efforts are ongoing to provide farmers with income opportunities through solar energy. Dedicated renewable feeders are supplying electricity to farms, helping improve agricultural productivity.
