The Uttar Pradesh government plans to train 30,000 “surya mitras” to support its goal of installing solar panels on every rooftop in the state. This effort follows the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, launched last year, which has already seen over 2.5 million solar panels installed in Uttar Pradesh.
To meet the need for skilled workers in the solar sector, the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) is targeting to train these “surya mitras” at district centers and ITIs. The three-month program includes 600 hours of training, covering classroom learning, practical lab work, and on-the-job experience.
Eligible candidates—those with a Class 10 education and ITI certification in relevant trades—will receive job placement support after completing the program.
UPNEDA has also partnered with the Tata Group to install solar panels on 1 million rooftops across the state, starting with Varanasi. So far, over 1.8 million homes have registered for solar installations, with more applications pending.
