GE Power India Limited has received a contract worth Rs 382 million from NTPC Limited for the supply of generator parts for the Talcher Thermal Power Station Expansion Project (Stage III). The award was confirmed on April 2, 2025. The scope of work is expected to be completed within 40 months.
NTPC is expanding the capacity of the existing 460 MW Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS) in Angul district, Odisha, by adding 1,320 MW (2×660 MW) under Stage III. The expansion project is based on supercritical technology and involves an estimated investment of Rs 100 billion.
Earlier stages of the project included four 60 MW units in Stage I and two 110 MW units in Stage II. GRIDCO has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC for the upcoming capacity.
The project will use 446 acres of land available within the existing complex. Water needs of 55 cusecs will be sourced from the Brahmani river. The coal requirement, estimated at 6.9 million tonnes per annum at 85 per cent plant load factor (PLF), will be met through linkage granted under the Ministry of Coal’s SHAKTI policy. The Standing Linkage Committee (long term) recommended allocation from Coal India Limited (CIL) on April 10, 2018.
