NTPC and APGENCO make progress on thermal power project expansions

NTPC Limited has announced plans to expand the Lara Super Critical Thermal Power Project with a Stage III development, estimated at Rs 155 billion.
Stage I, with a capacity of 1,600 MW, is operational, and Stage II, with the same capacity, is under development in Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh.
In another major development, Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) is preparing to submit the detailed project report (DPR) for the 3,200 MW Srikakulam Super Critical Power Project by February 2025.
Estimated at Rs 300 billion, the project will be located in Vennelavalasa village, Sarubujjili mandal, Andhra Pradesh, and is being developed in partnership with Sumitomo Corporation.
Simultaneously, Khaitan & Co LLP has been awarded a Rs 1.8 million contract to provide legal advisory services for the acquisition of the Nasik Thermal Power Project Phase – I.
The contract, awarded by NTPC Limited in December 2024, will support the project’s development at an investment of Rs 98.18 billion in Nasik district, Maharashtra. The project involves five 270 MW units, with Phase I commissioned in May 2017.
