Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) invited Expression of Interest (EoI) bids on December 17, 2024, for the revival of the 2×125 MW Giral Lignite Power Plant, the 1,100 MW Barmer Lignite-based Thermal Power Plant, and the establishment of a 440 MW renewable energy (RE) project in Rajasthan. The last date for bid submission is January 15, 2025.

The scope includes:

  • Revival of Giral Lignite Power Plant: Restarting the 250 MW Giral Lignite Thermal Power Plant (GLTPP) through the overhaul of key systems. RVUNL had implemented the project in Thumbli village with an investment of Rs 7.5 billion, commissioned in 2011.
  • 1,100 MW Barmer Lignite-based Thermal Power Plant: Establishing a new 1,100 MW power facility near Barmer’s lignite reserves.
  • 440 MW Renewable Energy Project: Developing a 440 MW renewable energy project to meet Rajasthan’s renewable generation obligations.
