Masdar, an Abu Dhabi-based future energy company, has inaugurated the 500MW Zarafshan wind farm in Uzbekistan, marking the largest wind facility in Central Asia.
The project was officially opened by Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, underscoring the country’s dedication to expanding its clean energy capacity and its partnership with the UAE in advancing renewable energy.
Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi emphasized Uzbekistan’s role as a key hub for renewable energy, leveraging its historical legacy and advancing large-scale clean energy projects.
The Zarafshan wind farm, one of Central Asia’s largest operational wind farms, is part of Uzbekistan’s broader goal of achieving 20GW of clean energy capacity by 2030.
Masdar has committed to investing $2bn in clean energy projects in Uzbekistan, with plans to exceed 2GW of total capacity. The company is also working on a pipeline of 4GW of renewable projects in the region, including a 1GW wind farm in the Mingbulak region, which will generate jobs and provide clean energy to 300,000 homes.
