Ambuja Cements has commissioned its 200 MW solar power project in Khavda, Gujarat, with transmission starting on December 12, 2024.
The remaining 806 MW capacity is under various commissioning stages and is expected to be operational between March and June 2025. This project is projected to reduce power costs by 70 per cent compared to current rates.
The company has received standing clearance for the 200 MW from the Western Regional Load Dispatch Centre (WRLDC). This marks the first phase of its Green Energy Project, part of a Rs 100 billion investment towards 1 GW of renewable energy, including solar, wind, and 376 MW of waste heat recovery systems (WHRS).
Ambuja Cements plans to commission 156 MW of wind power from Khavda and an additional 300 MW solar power from Rajasthan by March 2025. The remaining 350 MW solar power is expected to come online by June 2025.
The company aims to power 60% of its total energy consumption with green power by FY’28 as part of its commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
