The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is implementing the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) scheme across ten states to enhance renewable energy (RE) evacuation infrastructure.

These states include Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh.

For intrastate transmission systems (InSTS), the scheme offers up to 40% Central Grant Assistance. Additionally, an interstate transmission system (ISTS) project is being developed to evacuate 13 GW of renewable power from Ladakh to other parts of India, also supported by a 40% central grant.

As of October 31, 2024, India’s total non-fossil fuel power generation capacity reached 203.22 GW, accounting for 46.5% of the country’s total power generation capacity.

MNRE has introduced ISTS charge waivers for solar and wind projects commissioned by June 30, 2025, green hydrogen projects until December 2030, and offshore wind projects until December 2032.

To promote affordable and reliable renewable energy, the “Electricity (Promoting Renewable Energy Through Green Energy Open Access) Rules, 2022” were introduced, allowing Green Energy Open Access (GEOA) for consumers with a contract demand of 100 kW or more.

GEOA regulations have been adopted by 30 states and UTs, enabling the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sector to procure 529.67 million kWh of solar energy between October 2023 and December 2024.
