India’s total non-fossil fuel installed capacity reached 213.70 GW as of November 2024, a 14.2% increase from the previous year. Including pipeline projects, the total non-fossil fuel capacity surged to 472.90 GW, up 28.5% year-on-year.

From April to November 2024, 14.94 GW of new renewable energy capacity was added, nearly doubling the 7.54 GW added during the same period in FY 2023-24. November 2024 alone saw 2.3 GW of new capacity, a fourfold increase compared to November 2023.

Solar and wind power growth
Solar power led the expansion, with installed capacity rising from 72.31 GW in 2023 to 94.17 GW in 2024, a 30.2% increase. Including pipeline projects, total solar capacity soared by 52.7% to 261.15 GW. Wind power followed, growing from 44.56 GW in 2023 to 47.96 GW in 2024, a 7.6% rise, with total capacity reaching 74.44 GW.

Steady progress in bioenergy, hydro, and nuclear sectors
Bioenergy capacity grew 4.6%, reaching 11.34 GW, while small hydro projects saw a modest increase to 5.08 GW. Large hydro projects rose marginally to 46.97 GW, with pipeline capacity at 67.02 GW. Nuclear power capacity expanded from 7.48 GW in 2023 to 8.18 GW in 2024.
