The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has simplified rooftop solar installation rules for consumers with sanctioned loads of up to 10 kW.
The new guidelines allow a 10 per cent capacity tolerance for direct current (DC) systems, ensuring that the alternating current (AC) capacity of the inverter does not exceed the sanctioned load.
Consumers with lower sanctioned loads can now install systems up to 10 kW, with automatic load enhancement to match the required capacity.
Additionally, distribution licensees are required to upgrade infrastructure, such as lines and transformers, to support the increased capacity, with consumers covering costs for security deposits and amendments to power supply agreements.
Applications for rooftop solar systems up to 10 kW will be automatically approved without a technical feasibility study, accelerating the installation process.
KERC has also streamlined the application process for systems up to 150 kW in line with the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Amendment Rules, 2024, to further encourage rooftop solar adoption.

Author: PPD Team Date: April 23, 2025 US trade authorities have confirmed high tariffs on most solar cells imported from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. This follows a year-long investigation triggered by US manufacturers’ claims that Chinese-owned companies were underpricing products in the market. The investigation began after the American Alliance for Solar Manufacturing Trade Committee filed a petition in April 2024, alleging that Chinese solar companies operating in these countries were selling panels below…
