SAIL partners with John Cockerill India to integrate green technologies in steelmaking

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has partnered with John Cockerill India Limited (JCIL), a subsidiary of the John Cockerill Group, to introduce green technologies into traditional iron and steelmaking processes.
This collaboration aims to reduce carbon emissions and improve resource efficiency with sustainability and innovation in the steel industry.
In November 2024, JCIL received an order for 1.3 GW of electrolysers from AM Green for its one-million-tonne green ammonia project. The electrolysers will be delivered in two phases, with production starting in late 2026.
In October 2024, as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy approved SAIL’s 3,200 tonnes per-day pilot project in Ranchi to incorporate hydrogen in steel production.
