Uniper has entered into a six-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Stegra to supply 6 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity to Stegra’s plant in Boden, Northern Sweden, from 2027 to 2032.

The agreement will power Stegra’s green hydrogen, iron, and steel production facilities, supporting an initial annual production target of 2.5 million tonnes of green steel.

The Boden plant, currently under construction, is Europe’s first greenfield steel mill since 1974. Stegra energy portfolio head Arne Österlind highlighted the PPA’s strategic importance in securing reliable electricity for emission-reducing industrial processes.

Additionally, Axpo Nordic has signed a separate 2.25 TWh PPA with Stegra to supply electricity for three years starting in 2027.

Uniper is also actively expanding its renewable energy ventures, including a partnership with WAP Energia to develop a 600 MW onshore wind portfolio in Poland and a collaboration with NGEN to construct a 50 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage system in Germany.
