WAPCOS Limited, a Mini Ratna PSU under India’s Ministry of Jal Shakti, has issued a tender inviting local Togolese agencies to conduct an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for a solar electrification initiative.
Funded by the EXIM Bank of India, the project aims to electrify 350 rural villages in Togo using solar photovoltaic systems. It seeks to reduce fossil fuel dependency, enhance energy access, and foster sustainable socio-economic growth.
The project is being executed under the Togolese Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Agency (AT2ER) and requires the preparation of ESIA and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP) in compliance with guidelines from Togo’s Ministry of the Environment, Forest Resources, and Agence Nationale de Gestion de l’Environnement (ANGE), as well as international standards like those of the IFC.
The initiative is backed by a $40 million Line of Credit Agreement signed in June 2021 between the EXIM Bank of India and Togo’s Ministry of Economy and Finance.
