SRE Group and MWE form JV for offshore wind project in South Korea

Taiwan’s Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE Group) and South Korea’s Moondo Wind Energy (MWE) have launched a joint venture, Moondo Offshore Wind Energy, to develop an 840 MW offshore wind farm near Geomundo Island in Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do Province.Â
This project marks SRE Group’s debut in South Korea and its second international venture, following its expansion into Northern Kyushu, Japan.
The South Korean government has granted an electricity business license for the bottom-fixed offshore wind project, advancing the country’s renewable energy goals.Â
MWE CEO Honglyol Song emphasized SRE’s advanced technology and experience as pivotal to the project’s success. SRE Chairperson Lucas Lin highlighted the collaboration’s alignment with South Korea’s efforts to ramp up renewables and achieve net-zero emissions.
To support this initiative, SRE Group has opened a new office in central Seoul, aiming to build a dedicated team of local and international professionals to contribute to the region’s energy transition.
