National Grid Renewables has started construction on the 100MW Apple River Solar project in Polk County, Wisconsin.
Scheduled to commence operations in late 2025, the project will generate clean energy sufficient to power approximately 26,000 homes annually.
The solar farm will use First Solar Series 6 Plus bifacial modules. Construction is being handled by The Boldt Company, creating 150 jobs. Once operational, Apple River will supply power to Xcel Energy, serving customers in the Upper Midwest.
The project is projected to offset 129,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to removing 30,900 cars from the road. Over its first 20 years, Apple River is expected to contribute over $36 million in economic benefits, including $10 million in tax revenue for Polk County and local townships and $500,000 to local charities and organizations through a dedicated fund.
