Spain-based BlueFloat Energy has achieved major project status from the Australian government for its 2.1GW Gippsland Dawn offshore wind project, located off Victoria’s coast.Â
This status provides access to support from the Major Projects Facilitation Agency, marking a significant milestone for one of Australia’s largest offshore wind initiatives.
Scheduled to begin construction in 2029 with a $10 billion investment, Gippsland Dawn aims to be operational by 2031, with up to 140 turbines positioned 10 to 33 kilometres offshore.Â
The project will generate around 2,000 jobs during construction and maintain up to 300 operational roles, fostering local supply chains.Â
CEO Carlos Martin highlighted BlueFloat’s commitment to shaping Australia’s renewable energy landscape through sustainable development.
The wind farm, connected to the grid via cables and substations, awaits federal and state approvals. Project director Darragh White emphasized the importance of transparent community engagement to ensure collaborative benefits for all stakeholders.
