German energy company RWE has entered a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian to supply renewable energy from its upgraded 127MW Champion Wind project in Nolan and Mitchell counties, West Texas.
This agreement will support Rivian’s Adventure Network, enabling renewable energy-powered fast charging for its EVs and contributing to the company’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality.
Champion Wind, initially launched in 2008, is undergoing a major upgrade to extend its lifespan, with Siemens Gamesa providing 41 new turbines equipped with nacelles and blades.
Six additional turbines rated at 3.1MW each will also be installed, with completion expected by mid-2025. Once operational, the upgraded wind farm will power nearly one billion miles of renewable driving annually, equivalent to supplying electricity to 36,000 Texas households.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, RWE is partnering with Iowa-based REGEN Fiber to recycle decommissioned turbine blades. RWE is also expanding its renewable portfolio globally, having received approval from the Danish Energy Agency to construct the 1.1GW Thor offshore wind farm, which will power over one million Danish homes.

Vibhuti Garg, IEEFA’s director for South Asia, noted that while slower states need to ramp up clean energy efforts, even leading states like Rajasthan and Gujarat should monitor and fine-tune their strategies to avoid losing…
Author: PPD Team Date: August 6, 2025 The International Energy Agency (IEA) has reported that the cost of capital for clean energy projects in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs) remains at least twice as high as in advanced economies. This disparity continues to limit energy investment flows to these regions. In its third update, the IEA’s Cost of Capital Observatory expanded its scope to include hydroelectric power and Southeast Asia. Despite global energy investment…
