According to information provided to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, India is currently installing at least 10 new nuclear reactors.
The reactors, with a capacity of 700 MW each, are being developed in states including Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Haryana and are expected to become operational in the coming years.
The committee was informed that two reactors—Kakrapar-3 and Kakrapar-4 in Gujarat—are fully synchronized with the grid and have begun commercial power generation.
These reactors, approved in 2007 and with construction starting in 2010, are indigenously designed and mark a significant achievement in India’s nuclear energy development.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, a member and former Chairman of the committee, highlighted this accomplishment and noted the ongoing installation of similar reactors at other sites.
