Indore on a 100-day mission to become world’s first energy-literate city

Starting December 1, Indore will embark on a transformative initiative, the ‘Indore Climate Mission’, to establish itself as the world’s first energy-literate city. The campaign, led by the Indore Municipal Corporation in partnership with the Energy Swaraj Foundation, aims to engage 3.5 million residents in reducing carbon emissions through sustainable practices in their daily lives. The first phase, lasting 100 days, will focus on training residents in energy conservation techniques.

Led by Professor Chetan Singh Solanki, known as the ‘Solar Man of India’, the campaign encourages small but impactful lifestyle changes, such as wearing unironed clothes once a week or dedicating a day to consuming raw food, to help lower the city’s monthly electricity usage by 7 to 10 per cent. Indore hopes to set a global precedent for energy literacy and sustainability.
